Duties
The United States Space Force (USSF) Space Operations Command (SpOC) at the Suitland, Maryland is searching for an Aerospace Engineer (NH-0861-03).
Description:
To serve as a professional aerospace engineer in support of the acquisition, development, or sustainment of weapon systems, subsystems, and/or support equipment. The position is responsible for work related to the integration of the aeronautics and astronautics sciences within the broad arena of aviation and space exploration. Considered the technical specialist for the organization in aerospace engineering assignments concerning Satellite Bus Subsystems such as Flight Software; employee provides technical leadership and management to ensure project/program success. Work encompasses several phases of the development process in which the employee supervises, guides and evaluates the design and development activities of others. (NOAA) Satellite Operations Facility (NSOF) located in Suitland, MD and assigned to the Space Delta 2.
Serves as a consultant and technical expert to senior subject matter specialists, agency and/or Department of Defense (DoD) officials responsible for broad program operations. Serves as the technical expert for the organization and provides status and advisory services to superiors on problems, issues, and projects in assigned program areas. Key Skills and Abilities:
1.Knowledge of professional aerospace engineering concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, materials, and equipment to effectively apply engineering theories, principles, and concepts to project development and execution.
2. Knowledge of air-vehicles, ground systems, and support equipment sufficient to plan, design, test, troubleshoot, evaluate, and oversee the development and/or sustainment of aerospace vehicles and systems.
3. Knowledge of other engineering disciplines and standard acquisition regulations, practices, and procedures.
4. Ability to analyze data and establish requirements for technical objectives and characteristics.
5. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing, as well as work in a professional manner with peers, management, contractors, academia, and other agencies.
6. Ability to use computer applications in support of planning, designing, analysis, and reporting.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship Required
- This position is eligible for situational telework, 2-4 days per pay period.
- PCS and incentives are not available.
- The work requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Top Secret (SSBI) security clearance.
- A professional engineering degree at the bachelor's level from an ABET accredited institution in Aerospace Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline is highly desired.
- This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, participation in random drug testing.
- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
- The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate valid driver's license may be required for the position.
- May be required to acquire and maintain certification(s), such as Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP).
- May be required to work overtime.
- Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
- This position is designated as a key position IAW AFI 36-507. Duties of this position are essential to the accomplishment of wartime/contingency operations. Incumbents must be removed from their military recall status.
- This is a Mission Essential (ME) position performing a Mission Critical Function (MCF) IAW, DoDI 3020-42, Defense Continuity Programs.
- May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY assign.
