The position is located in the Brain Sciences Center, a unique interdisciplinary unit, under the direction of the American Legion Brain Sciences Chair. As Administrative Assistant, the employee provides general administrative assistance to the Brain Sciences Center as well as services related to the management of grants, research, and endowments.

The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. As an employee operating in a Whole Health System of care, you will operate in a model with three core elements, seeking to create a personalized health plan for each Veteran. Major duties listed but not limited to:
Receive and screen telephone calls, visitors, and mail
Prepare and route correspondence and reports
Prepare documents for the committees on Human Subjects, Animal Care and Use and other related committees for both the VA and the University
Order equipment and other office supplies
Perform timekeeping functions for VA and University personnel
Arrange travel and lodging for visitors
Coordinate visits and other interactions related to endowments
Forecast budget deficits and/or surpluses and prepare documents requesting re-budgeting of funds as needed
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (work hours may be further discussed during the interview)
Telework, Ad hoc: Ad Hoc telework occurs on an occasional, non-routine basis- for example, inclement weather or telework that occurs to complete short-term special assignments or to accommodate special circumstances even though the telework arrangement may occur continuously for a limited and specific period of time. VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position may be authorized for telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
GS-07 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: provide administrative support to the organization such as ordering equipment, answering telephone calls, sorting mail, etc.; prepare various correspondence such as letters, documents, reports; manage databases, spreadsheets and word processing programs for grant management; schedule meetings, conferences and appointments; and maintain detailed records regarding endowments and grants.
There is no educational substitution for the GS-07 level.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
