Duties
Summary of Duties: Performs a variety of seasonal golf course gardening tasks and assists with preparing the course for daily play. Reports directly to the Golf Course Assistant Superintendent. Rake and trim the bunkers as needed. Cut and trim golf course greens, tees, fairways, and roughs with standard golf course equipment. May apply growth enhancers and fertilizer to greens and tees. Grades and prepares base, lays sod, and seeds greens, tees, and fairways. Participates in daily setup for play. Excavates and backfills ditches and trenches with hand tools. Cuts weeds and brush. Tree trimming duties. Assist with loading and unloading materials used for the golf course.

Qualifications
Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of seasonal gardening tasks and procedures preferably used in the golf course industry, for example: how to apply fertilizer evenly to avoid underfeeding or burning plants. Ability to use a variety of hand and power operated garden tools and equipment such as seeders, spreaders, edger’s, hedge trimmers, pruning shears, and sprayers. May require the operation of a motor vehicle, requiring a driver's license. Responsibility: Reports directly to the Golf Course Assistant Superintendent or Supervisor on duty. Supervisor provides specific instructions as to daily agronomic maintenance task to tend and the nature of work to be performed. Completes work with little review during progress on the golf course. Operates maintenance equipment in a safe and professional manner. Completes all yearly and monthly safety training in Ethos, ESAMS and Monthly Safety Topics. Physical Effort: Work requires frequent walking, standing, pushing of carts and wheelbarrows, bending and stooping. Occasionally climbs ladders to prune or trim vegetation and frequently lifts heavy objects such as bags of fertilizer, seed, etc. Lifts and carries objects up to 45 lbs independently and objects over 45 lbs with assistance. Working Conditions: Work is done outside and incumbent is subject to discomfort from long periods in hot sun and sometimes to chilly or rainy weather. Exposed to dirt, dust, mud and sometimes to common household-type chemical sprays and dusts. May be required to wear protective clothing. Chance of minor injuries such as bruises, cuts, scrapes and occasional possibility of broken bones from falls.
