This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for certain personnel in the DoD workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Provide maintenance, repairs and improvements to real property assets for the whole installation.

Duties

Perform the full range of work involved in the repair, overhaul, maintenance, and servicing of industrial and domestic repair. Inspect heating, ventilating, and air conditioning and refrigeration systems, sub-systems, and their components to evaluate condition, identify necessary. Repair adjustments and recommend preventive maintenance in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, standards, and technical manufacturers' guidance. Ability to use all the hand tools and test equipment common to the trade to test functioning, maintain system, and perform dismantling. Troubleshoot, diagnoses analyze, and identifies system malfunctions to determine the source and cause of the problem.

Requirements

  • Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
  • Continued employment in this position requires possession of a valid State/Commonwealth Operators License for equipment being operated and requiring license, as well as an agency issued US Government Motor Vehicle operators Identification Card.
  • In this position the incumbent must Possess Chlorofluorocarbon,(CFC) Universal License.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.

I am skilled in recognizing the cause of faulty equipment, or making repairs on large Industrial systems that provide for a variety of air conditioning functions such as heating, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, cleaning, filtering, or circulating, including water cooled and air-cooled chillers (including water cooled and air-cooled chillers such as centrifugal, screw, magnetic bearing, and scroll compressors).- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Mechanic frequently carries and sets up parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms to parts of systems that are frequently in hard-to-reach places; therefore, stooping, bending, and kneeling are required for long periods of time. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed inside and occasionally outside, frequently in cramped and awkward positions; shop area is usually adequately heated and ventilated; work is frequently dirty and greasy; variable temperatures occur when working in cold-storage rooms; subject to possible injuries such as cuts, bruises, burns, and electrical shock; possible respiratory disorders due to inhalation of refrigerant gases.
