Duties

As a Physician (Public Health) you will: Serves as senior medical advisor to the Director of the CIO and other CDC senior leadership on both national and international public health medical program activities. Identifies and analyzes issues and their impact on public health policies as they relate to programs. Consults on, monitors, and measures the outcome of these programs through studies which evaluate the effectiveness of project activities in meeting the needs of the CIO. Plans and evaluates the medical aspects of all the CIO programs. Draws on personal knowledge and expertise in the management of public health medical programs to establish overall guidelines and policies and to develop basic recommendations for studies and analyses. Leads the design, implementation, and analysis of significant collaborative studies with national or international policy or program implications.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Basic Qualifications: Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. OR Degree from Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school. Licensure For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Graduate Training 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. AND 5 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GP-15 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level, which must include the following experience: Experience directing scientific, technical, and programmatic medical activities to originate new techniques, establish criteria, or develop new information. . Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.

College or university degree must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools which meet these criteria, please refer to Department of Education Accreditation page.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
