Duties

You will possess apprehension/detention authority on a military installation and will be required to carry a firearm in the performance of duties. You will perform anti-terrorism/force protection duties to deter, detect, and/or deny unauthorized access. You will perform a wide variety of complex law enforcement duties generated by the surrounding area of the installation. You will respond to and/or investigate complaints of minor to complex incidents, patrol installations by vehicle, bike, or foot. You will perform law enforcement duties at fixed posts such as entry and exit gates throughout the installation.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen. Must be determined suitable for federal employment. Must participate in the direct deposit pay program. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service. Must be 18 years of age.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Work includes assignment to rotating shift, including weekends and holidays, subject to 24-hour recall and maintain a 24-hour recall notification number and is required to respond. Call back and emergency overtime required.
  • This is a Department of Navy Drug Testing Designated Position (TDP). Required to undergo pre-employment urinalysis requirements and sustainment drug testing.
  • The DON does not employ individuals for Law Enforcement Officer positions who have been convicted of a crime of domestic violence on or after 27 November 2002. You must submit DD Form 2760, Qualification to Possess Firearms before appointment.
  • Candidate will meet all certification requirements to include weapons certifications. CPF, AED, DoD and Joint Training regulations. Training may be conducted at a regional training facility.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. Must maintain program height and weight standards. Required to wear a uniform and maintain appearance and grooming standards per Marine Corps Orders/policies
  • Must pass a National Agency Check and local background check. Must be able to read, write and speak English. Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • This position does not meet the definition of law enforcement officer (LEO}) and is excluded from coverage as LEO or purposes of the Federal Retirement System Base Annuity IAW 5 CFR, Part 842, Subpart H.
  • You must meet the qualifications and be certified to carry a firearm. You will need to maintain firearm proficiency.
  • You must pass a sanctioned physical agility test and medical evaluation and pass periodic retests as required. Must meet medical standards for Police Officers in DoD 6055.05M and NMCPHC-TM-0M 6260.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license; and be able to maintain a U.S. Government emergency vehicle operator's license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Qualifications

GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: responds to emergency calls, conducts preliminary investigations for critical incidents, and specializes in traffic law control and enforcement, including investigative stops and issuing citations. Applies knowledge of probable cause for various investigations. GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: responding to police assistance calls, enforcing traffic laws, conducting stops and searches, aiding accident victims with first aid, and documenting incidents in reports. GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: basic knowledge and understnading of laws, regulations, and law enforcement procedures for routine fixed post assingments. Regulating building access individuals right, and performing security perimeter patrols. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. NOTE: Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills. This position has promotion potential to the GS-07 grade. If selected below the full performance level, you may be non-competitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Education


No substitution of education or training may be made for the required specialized experience at the GS-06 level or above.

GS-05:
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in Police Science or a comparable degree program related to the work of the position.
OR
Possess a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one-year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus percentage of the required experience equal to one hundred percent.

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Possess a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to 1 year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal to 100 percent.

SUBSTITUTION OF TRAINING FOR EXPERIENCE NOTE: Successful completion of a Federal, State, county, or municipal police academy or comparable training course that included at least 40 classroom hours of instruction in police department procedures and methods, and local law and regulations, may be substituted for a maximum of 3 months of specialized experience or 6 months of general experience.
