Duties

This temporary position is located at the Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital, Hines IL. (578) - a Level 1a Complexity VHA Facility and is organizationally aligned under the Office of the Director. Established to help recruit talented people to work in the Federal Government, the Pathways Programs target students and recent graduates of all ages and backgrounds.is designed to provide meaningful experience and on-the-job training in various specialized program areas in VA that will lead to permanent employment Receives general orientation to hospital operations management through exposure to administrative functions and processes unique to the organization. Drafts correspondence requesting clarification or additional information regarding service line information requests. Correspondence is prepared for review by a higher graded individual, and higher-level signature. Calls questionable items to the attention of the supervising individual. Searches files and reference materials for information relating to the issue at hand. Participates, as an observer, in mediations and other higher-level activities. Performs special projects related to administrative elements of the service line supported. Performs other duties as assigned Ability to use basic office automation computer applications, such as MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint. Familiarity with the organization of office files and the purpose and content of documents in the files and for searching files to find relevant information, and logically organizing and reporting collected information. Knowledge of the clerical steps in processing documents, filing and retrieving information, preparing reports, and maintaining suspense records. Requires effective communication to peers and leadership Work requires knowledge of basic or commonly used Hospital rules, procedures, or operations that typically require some previous training or experience. The work consists of various duties, projects or assignments involving different and unrelated management or program analysis, technical processes, and procedures. Work Schedule: Full time, Monday through Friday 7:30a- 4:00p Position Description/PD#: Student Trainee (Administrative Support) - Recent Graduate PD#: 23017A AFTER PROGRAM COMPLETION: Recent Graduates may be converted to a permanent position (or, in some limited circumstances, a term appointment lasting 1-4 years). To be eligible for conversion, Recent Graduates must have: Successfully completed at least 1-year of continuous service in addition to all requirements of the Program. Demonstrated successful job performance. Met the qualifications for the position to which the Recent Graduate will be converted

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement:02/09/2024. RECENT GRADUATE REQUIREMENT: You must have obtained a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctoral, or technical/vocational degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution within the previous two years. Preference eligible veterans who were precluded from applying due to their military service obligation begin their 2-year eligibility period upon release or discharge from active duty. Eligibility for these veterans cannot exceed 6 years from the date on which the degree (or certification) was completed. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: GS-05 Grade Level: Education: To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree. Specialized Experience: you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Communication and interpersonal relations, including the ability to appropriately and courteously relate to internal and external customers, Maintenance of confidentiality of patient/incumbent information, electronic and print, how to work and function in the Hospital in a safe manner, including infection control and the correct operation of equipment. Combining Education & Experience: If you do not fully meet the length of experience and education described for a specific grade level (e.g. have six months of experience and some coursework but not a degree), the two can be combined to total 100% of the requirement. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Full vs. Part-Time Employment: Full-time employment is considered to be at least 35hours per week. Part-time experience will be credited on a pro-rated basis; when including part-time employment in your resume you must specify the average hours worked per week. Physical Requirements: The work consists of various duties, projects or assignments involving different and unrelated management or program analysis technical processes and procedures. Working Conditions: Regular work is performed in a clean well-lighted office, and typically involves everyday risks and discomforts of an office environment.

Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to be credited towards qualifications. Provide only the attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
