This position is located within the Service and Motor Transportation Unit of the Operations Section in the Engineering Service of the VA Medical Center in Lebanon, PA. The Motor Vehicle Operator operates gasoline, diesel, or electronic powered wheeled vehicles to haul cargo and fuel, transport passengers, or to tow or recover equipment.
Duties
The major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Operates wheeled vehicles, wheel-mounted trailers, or engineering and construction equipment with wheeled or crawler-type tractions;
Drives vehicles in restricted traffic environments on government installations, over public roads and highways, or under cross-country conditions;
Operates platform, van, stake and dump trucks, passenger shuttle and cargo vans which have a gross vehicle weight of 10,000 pounds and up to 26, 000 pounds;
Operates vehicles over uneven terrain, over improved/unimproved roads and through congested areas;
Performs operator maintenance, such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires;
Cleans and washes vehicles; and
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Designated Drug-Testing Position: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, Rotating Schedule.

Qualifications
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Possesses good physical condition in order to perform the duties of this position efficiently and in a safe manner. Lifts drums weighing over 60 pounds when full, as well as push heavy laundry carts.
Vehicles are operated in all types of traffic and weather conditions on public roads and there is exposure to the danger of serious accidents. The person in this position drives in heavy traffic and at highway speed over complicated road and interchange systems.
DRIVER'S LICENSE (SCREEN OUT): A current and valid state-issued driver's license is required. NOTE: We cannot accept photographs, therefore; please do not submit a copy of your license with your application package; however, you may be required to bring a copy of your license if you are contacted for an interview.
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
