About the Position: The incumbent serves as a dispensing pharmacy technician performing most or all of the following duties that can range from routine to difficult.

Duties
Determines type of substance, strength, dosage, and quantity to be dispensed in accordance with accepted practice and pharmacy standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Coordinates with prescriber or pharmacist to clarify issues or problems with dosing, interactions, or instructions.
Incumbent attends the dispensing window for pick up; provides instruction to patients on proper use of medications.
Scans the prescriptions for the filler and checker after typing prescriptions and then fills the prescription.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- THIS POSITION IS COVERED BY THE CIVILIAN DRUG ABUSE TESTING PROGRAM. INCUMBENT ISREQUIRED TO SIGN A DA FORM 5019-R, AND/OR DA FORM 7412.
- THIS IS AN INCLEMENT WEATHER ESSENTIAL POSITION: INCUMBENT IS EXPECTED TO MAKE EVERYATTEMPT TO REPORT FOR DUTY ON TIME AND/OR REMAIN ON DUTY DURING SEVERE WEATHER CONDITIONS.
- REQUIRED TO WORK WEEKEND CALL DUTIES AND EVENINGS.
- This position requires a Pre-Appointment Physical.
- This position requires a drug test.
- This position may require heavy lifting of 40 lbs.
- This position is covered by Health Affairs Policy 97006, 23 Oct 96 the position requires the employee to obtain Hepatitis B immunizations and Tuberculin testing unless exempt by physician.
- Employee will be required to wear and use personal protective equipment as required and provided by the employer.
- This position is part of the TDP in accordance with AR-600-85. This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program.
- Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as Critical Under the Drug Abuse Testing Program or a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
- PTCB National Pharmacy license/certification may be required.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes verifying accuracy of pharmaceutical labels; utilizing automated pharmacy systems to enter and retrieve data; and rotating pharmacy stock. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
OR
Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Pharmacology.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
