This position is at the full performance level. Informatics Dietitian is the subject matter expert responsible for Nutrition and Food Services (NFS) computer systems and serves as the Nutrition Communications Center (NCC) Coordinator. This position manages VHA supported software programs and/or Commercial off the Shelf Systems (COTS) that focus on Nutrition and Food Services to include food production and food service operations.
Duties
Assigned duties but not limited to:
Provides system support to include testing, maintenance, enhancements and problem solving.
Works with professionals/vendors in tailoring software to meet the needs of the service and to trouble shoot system issues.
Supports facility in informatics of marketing NFS with reporting to NFAC Marketing Nutrition and Informatics.
Acts as the service ADPAC serving as the liaison between administration, food services, clinical staff and OIT regarding clinical information system processes.
Serves as the subject matter expert, providing expertise and consultation to leadership to ensure clinical practice and informatic issues are considered in all collaborative programs.
Maintains and implements information security for all data files. Collaborates with OIT for mandated updates and downtimes within facility as well as VISN.
Collaborates with COR for contracting to assure all systems are protected for privacy issues with contracted informatics programs.
Assesses needs specific to information systems; and recommends equipment and software requirements, relating to nutrition information systems.
Coordinates, and evaluates information systems that support organizational process and/or systems to improve food operations and clinical nutrition capabilities.
Implements and maintains integrated software systems for all areas of food production and clinical nutrition.
Use electronic programs to produce reports, analyze data and to improve personal efficiency and productivity.
Recommends new systems or changes to existing systems to support the delivery of, and documentation of, nutrition services.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or Registered Dietitian (RD) - Must be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) the credentialing branch of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics formerly known as the American Dietetic Association (ADA).
Current VHA Dietitians that qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision may not be promoted to a higher grade if they do not meet the current RDN/RD requirements.
Grade Determinations:
GS-11 Dietitian (Full Performance Level)
(a) Experience or Education. At least 1 year of experience as a registered dietitian equivalent to the next lower grade level, or education equivalent to 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education, or a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree from an accredited university or college in the field of dietetics or closely related field.
In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs:
a. Knowledge of best practices in the dietetics profession and in scientific literature, including
knowledge of research methods, study design, data collection, interpretation of findings, and translation of results into nutrition practice.
b. Ability to comply with various accrediting, regulatory, and agency authorities.
c. Ability to develop and maintain a system of internal reviews and direct quality control and performance improvement studies.
d. Knowledge of computer software programs relative to food service systems.
