Duties

Serves as a supervisory surf-lifeguard, the incumbent plays a key role in the delivery of in-service training the includes instruction in surf-rescue techniques either with or without equipment, and the administration of urgent first-aid care and CPR; schedules, assigns, and monitors work for adherence to established performance standards; counsels subordinates in technical matters; prepares reports mandated by applicable guidelines, payrolls etc. This position involves leading/supervising work concerned with protecting the public against preventable danger and drowning death in the waters officially designated for swimming surf-beach seashore area. This work typically involves preventive surf-life guarding; rescuing, either individually or as a member of a team, persons in distress or in danger of drowning; administering urgent first-aid care and cardiopulmonary resuscitation; controlling usually large crowds; operating and maintaining rescue equipment; enforcing agency regulations; and performing and supervising other related work. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GK-ObNVP7K9NucRrvO7PucZoKgVp78CC/view

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-07/19/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. You must be able to pass the surf-lifeguard test. Candidates must pass all parts of the test - includes the following: Swim 550 yards continuously in less than 10 minutes using a swimming stroke performed on the front only; and Run 1.25 miles continuously in less than 12 minutes. All applicants will be tested upon entry on duty. Pre-employment physical examination will be required prior to entry on duty at applicant's expense. Current valid nationally recognized CPR/AED course-completion certificate required prior to enter on duty. To qualify for this position at the GS-06 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: Provide overall supervision for a staff of Recreation Assistants (Lifeguard) that may include subordinate Lead Recreation Assistants (Lifeguard) who are responsible for patrolling and providing lifesaving services to the public at a pool or beach facility, perform the duties and responsibilities of a Recreation Assistant (Lifeguard), that includes patrolling and providing lifesaving services to the public at a pool or beach facility, develop and conduct lifeguard and lifesaving training for a staff of Recreation Assistants (Lifeguard), managing a pool or beach facility that includes a staff of lifeguards. You must include hours per week worked and beginning and ending (month/year) for each work experience listed. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
