The purpose of the position is to assist clinical & community health nutrition professionals in providing nutrition services to patients, individuals, families & communities within the Service Unit facilities, in the home, and/or surrounding community areas with a variety of task involving direct patient care/services in education, case management, program marketing, & quality management and controls. This position is located at Clinical & Community Nutrition Department, Chinle, AZ.
Duties
NOTE: This position is being announced concurrently with announcement IHS-24-CH-12281054-ESEP/MP for candidates at the GS-07/08 grade level, please review vacancy announcement for eligibility requirements. Applicants must apply separately for each announcement in order to be considered for each grade level.
Assists with a wide variety of health care to a wide variety of people and clients with multiple health care issues and concerns in various settings such as hospital, outpatient clinic, mobile units, virtual platforms, schools, chapter house, businesses, grocery and convenient store, and other community settings.
As guided by the dietitian, participates and implements patient care for individuals and families through patient/client visits.
Assists the dietitian and other health professionals with interviewing and educating patients about the disease process including onset, treatment, follow up and resolution.
Explain prescribed diet using approved references and modifies individuals' menus to comply with the diet order while incorporating individual patient preferences and cultural traditions.
Identifies social, cultural and environmental needs and assets to determine support systems and perhaps refer the patient to other appropriate resources.
Provides health education/promotion interventions including breastfeeding support to individuals and groups.
Assist the dietitians or professional with identifying health needs, monitoring health status, appropriately documents, and providing feedback to ensure appropriate patient care is provided in a timely manner.
Creates bulletin board displays, pamphlets, and presentation of materials related to public health program.
Participates in quality monitoring of performance improvement activities for planning, data collecting and reporting.
Set and leads meeting and take and distribute meeting minutes, makes corrections and posts.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels and positions for which both education and experience are acceptable.

Individual Occupational Requirements
Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.

For GS-5: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Assisting with patient screenings in clinic, community events or at other community events, creating bulletin board displays, pamphlets and presentation of materials related to public health program, assisting with managing supplies and equipment inventory, creating reports, obtaining health information, recording health information and education into Electronic Health Record.
OR
4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation.
GS06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Providing data entry, maintaining databases, creating reports, performing quality and assurance, working collaboratively to implement program plans, assisting with observing and monitoring patient food intake, assisting Dietitian with interviewing and educating patients, assisting at Public Health related events, soliciting health information and carrying out patient care services.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
