Duties
MAJOR DUTIES:
This position serves as a Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor within the National Park Service (NPS). The incumbent works within the following organization of the NPS: The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee Operations, Gatlinburg TN. The primary purpose of this position is to supervise trades and labor work on a regular, recurring, and substantially full-time and continuing basis.
Provide technical and administrative supervision over subordinates performing various trades and labor occupations such as Maintenance Mechanic, Mason, Masonry Worker, Wood Crafter, Carpenter, Carpenter Worker, etc. Provide professional and technical support and knowledge on utilities, trades, and crafts such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, painting, roofing, grounds keeping and janitorial services.
Perform various administrative functions as a supervisor, such as preparing personnel packages for recruiting, classification, on- and off-boarding, etc.; preparing and implementing short term work plans; providing input to higher level managers on long-term planning; assigning, directing, reviewing, and evaluating the work of subordinates; scheduling work operations; reviewing and approving payroll, leave, and extra hours requests; determining material, equipment, and training needs; reviewing and approving purchases and travel; writing scopes of work (SOW) for contracting packages; overseeing various programs and agreements (e.g., youth activities); reviewing, tracking, and/or providing input into organizational budgets; overseeing the input of data into automated facility management data tracking systems (e.g. FMSS); preparing reports on workload and employee data; etc.
May serve as Project Supervisor, Contracting Officer's Representative (COR), and/or Agreements Technical Representative (ATR) on facility related projects.
Perform Other Duties as Assigned.
AREA/DUTY STATION INFORMATION: Great Smoky Mountains National Park is located in the states of North Carolina and Tennessee and encompasses 800 square miles of which 95 percent are forested. The headquarters is located near the city of Gatlinburg, TN. There are 16 peaks over 6,000' in elevation and up to 90" of rainfall spread throughout the year. The Park has 10 campgrounds, 800 miles of horse and hiking trails, and 750 miles of fishable streams. The Smokies is within one day's drive for about 1/3 of the U.S. population and thus attracts 9 to 10 million visitors annually; making it the most visited, national park in the system. Climate is moderate with average lows in the summer in the 60's and highs in the 80's and 90's and average lows in winter between 20 and 30 with highs in the 50's. Snowfall averages range from 5" in Gatlinburg, TN, to 11" in Bryson City, NC. Within Great Smoky Mountains National Park there are 514,000 acres, approximately 350 miles of road, 900 miles of surface and graded trails, 65 miles of Lake Fontana shoreline, 15 schedules cemetery visits across Fontana, 500 buildings and structures, 35 water system, 30 sewer systems, 10 major campgrounds, 11 picnic areas, various other utility systems, heating system, 88 historic buildings, 150 cemeteries, a radio system to include 9 - remote repeater sites, 74 housing units in three districts. Within the parks boundaries, there are two states, five counties, three congressional districts, five electrical suppliers and three water/sewer utility suppliers.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:
