This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Serves as a Wildlife Biologist in the Environmental and Natural Resources of USAG Ft Walker Directorate of Public Works. Pay scale under Washington DC Baltimore.
Salary is on the Washington DC-Baltimore pay table for 2024.
Duties
Document population trends by determining appropriate criteria.
Coordinate with other agencies for regional conservation efforts.
Provide biological data for evaluation of projects.
Participate in development of monitoring programs for fish and wildlife resources.
Submits timely reports/applications to appropriate agencies to obtain and maintain proper permits necessary to accomplish habitat improvements.
Provide population condition data for input into Geographic Information System (GIS).

Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Tier 1 investigation.
- In order to carry out assigned duties, incumbent must be able to operate a government owned motor vehicle and must possess a valid State driver's license, and Commercial B Driver’s license.
- This position may require the incumbent to work outdoors in various weather elements.
- Must have a Government Driver's License to operate the following vehicles/equipment: on-road motor vehicles weighing up to 10,000 pounds gross vehicle weight, four-wheel drive vehicles, bulldozer, agricultural tractors, and boats with outboard motors
- Operates motor vehicle to and from work sites and transport supplies and equipment. Operates boats with outboard motors, and heavy equipment such as transport trucks, crawlers, and agricultural tractors.
- Must possess a Class "B" Commercial Driver's License.
- Must complete physical exam prior to appointment.
- Drug testing position.
- State driver's license.
- Lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to work in wildlife environment to include all kinds of animal wildlife, e.g. snakes, skunks, foxes, birds, etc. critters.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. BASIC REQUIREMENT: Degree: biological science that included:
At least 9 semester hours in such wildlife subjects as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management, or research courses in the field of wildlife biology; and
At least 12 semester hours in zoology in such subjects as general zoology, invertebrate zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, genetics, ecology, cellular biology, parasitology, entomology, or research courses in such subjects (Excess courses in wildlife biology may be used to meet the zoology requirements where appropriate.); and
At least 9 semester hours in botany or the related plant sciences.
OR: Combination of education and experience: equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), with at least 9 semester hours in wildlife subjects, 12 semester hours in zoology, and 9 semester hours in botany or related plant science, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
FOR THE GS-11 LEVEL: In addition to the basic requirements, applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-09 level) that may have been obtained in the private or public (local, county, state, Federal) sectors which demonstrates:
Monitoring and management of fish and wildlife resources
Collecting habitat quality data; and
Recording wildlife observations.
OR 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree in wildlife biology, wildlife management, wildlife ecology or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for this grade level. TRANSCRIPTS are required if:

The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for that grade level. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
