The Aircraft Mechanic serves as a journeyman fixed wing airplane mechanic responsible for performing inspections, maintenance, repairs, and/or alterations on Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) fixed wing single and light multi-engine piston powered airplane fleet in the aircraft maintenance shop at Aircraft and Equipment Operations (AEO), Mission, Texas.

Duties

The duties may include, but are not limited to: Performs the duties of a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Certificated Airframe and Powerplant (A and P) Mechanic. Tests, troubleshoots, removes, installs, aligns, and adjusts the oil, fuel, hydraulic, and electrical systems of aircraft. Inspects, installs, replaces, and repairs airframes, engines, propellers, appliances, and other components as necessary. Performs all phases of aircraft structural repair and alteration, including sheet metal structure, wood structure, steel tubing structure, and composite structure. Conducts detailed 100-hour and annual inspections in accordance with manufacturer, FAA, and APHIS established requirements to determine aircraft condition and airworthiness. Troubleshoots, checks, and repairs aircraft systems and associated mechanisms through connecting, adjusting, and operating test equipment. Traces and corrects electrical problems in various aircraft systems. Must be familiar with Department of Transportation FAA publications (Code of Federal Regulations Part 14, Airworthiness Directives, Orders, Bulletins, Advisory Circulars, Forms, etc.), and be able to work within the confines and compliance of such oversight.

Qualifications

This position has a selective factor, as a minimum qualification requirement all candidates must have completed attained their Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Certificated Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic certificate. To qualify, you must show that you have had training and experience of sufficient scope and quality to provide you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.
