Duties

You will perform work on electrical distribution systems. You will interpret blueprints schematics, online diagrams, wiring diagrams, sketches, work orders, and complete service calls. You will operate a wide variety of high voltage electrical distribution system equipment including those utilizing air, sf6, oil, and solid insulation technologies. You will determine corrective actions for electric power-controlling equipment such as switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, switches and power generating equipment.

  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current CPR certification.
  • NAVFAC MIDLANT is a regionalized command. The incumbent serving in this position may at any time be reassigned to a similar position at any site or workstation within the commuting area as a condition of employment.
  • Incumbent is required to possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) at the WG-08/10 level.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: THE ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF A HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRICIAN WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION INCLUDING: 1) Following detailed instructions to repair high voltage electrical power-generating and distribution equipment (e.g., generators, transformers, switches, circuit breakers, recording instruments, and control systems); 2) Reading manuals, circuit drawings, or diagrams to plan work sequences; 3) Using hand tools and test equipment of the trade in a safe manner.
