You will serve as a Plumber in the Public Works Department of NAV FACILITIES ENGINEERING COMMAND SE.

Duties

You will select tools, methods, or techniques to use to carry out plumbing work. You will assemble pipes by measuring, cutting, threading, bending, and soldering. You will locate and tap main lines, set up system routes, place and cut route openings, and place hangers for correct level and slope to make repairs. You will determine the repairs needed through testing or inspecting of assigned plumbing equipment. You will fabricate parts or improvise installations when blueprints and sketches do not contain sufficient information.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to perform the following duties under normal supervision: 1) Making plumbing repairs that can be accomplished by removing, cleaning, replacing, packing and sealing defective parts of utility, supply and disposal systems such as dirty traps, sections of broken tile pipe, and leaky drains; 2) Measuring, cutting, bending, and threading pipe and tile, and caulking and sealing elbows, union joints, tiles or pipes, faucets and shower drains; and utilizing appropriate tools of the trade (e.g. pipe cutting and threading machine, electric and drill, etc.).
