About the Position: This position works under the Integrated Training Area Management Coordinator, in the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Pierce County, Washington.

Duties

Provide technical expertise and Geographic Information Support (GIS) support through the creation and updating of digitized drawings, aerial photographs, maps, and other geospatial data. Use GIS and image processing software programs. Produce spatial products including range and training land plans, grassland/forestry maps, geological maps, photographic maps, contour maps, facility site maps, infrastructure maps, and military installation maps to prepare or present documents. Apply current cartographic and GIS techniques in interpreting cultural, landscape, and vegetation features from aerial photographs. Manage and perform analyses with LiDAR data. Input and evaluate Surface Danger Zones (SDZ) and understand the safety analysis pursuant to those zones. Identify cartographic source requirements and source materials including aerial photographs, orthophotographs, satellite imagery, and maps and assist in procuring appropriate and quality source materials. Implement Sustainable Range Program (SRP) GIS protocols including; quality assurance plan (QAP) for all training and range GIS layers. Prepare and present documents to various installation working/professional groups. Develop/perform formal and informal training products/sessions for other GIS users.

The 30 semester hours must have included at least 6, but no more than 15, semester hours of college level, non-business mathematics or statistics (i.e., college level algebra, trigonometry, calculus, or scientific mathematics or statistics requiring equivalent college-level courses as prerequisites). OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in cartography, or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography, and/or directly related science, and related mathematics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes creating maps and other cartographic products using digitized drawings, aerial photographs, and image processing software programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). Note: Creditable experience may include military experience, experience gained in the private sector, or experience gained in another government agency so long as it was at a level at least equivalent to the next lower grade in the series (GS-09).Applicants whose experience in cartography was in the Federal service may have gained this experience by working in an occupational series other than GS-1370. Occupations in which experience may have been gained include Geography, GS-150; Civil Engineering, GS-810; General Physical Science, GS-1301; Geodesy, GS-1372; and Land Surveying, GS-1373.
