This position is part of the Haskell Indian Nations University, Bureau of Indian Education. As a Supervisory Education Program Specialist you will be responsible for providing technical assistance to the Retention Specialists of the Haskell Student Success Center (SSC) in the Division of Academics.
Duties
As a Supervisory Education Program Specialist GS-1720-11, your typical work assignments may include the following:
Provide first-level supervision to four GS-7 Retention Technicians.
Provide leadership in developing programs, interventions, and strategic initiatives to ensure student success and persistence. Work collaboratively with campus partners to implement.
Provide supervision, leadership and mentoring of Retention Technicians, tutors and student workers in the Student Success Center (SSC) to ensure federal standards of ethics and promote teamwork, loyalty, devotion, commitment, and selfless service.
Manage the Early Alert System (EAS). The EAS helps alert the retention specialist of students who have missed classes, medical/ personal issues.
Work collaboratively with all university departments to identify incoming students who need additional support; develop and monitor academic plans accordingly.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the OPM Standards. For this position, they are listed below.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Degree: that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours in a field related to the work of the position to be filled, of which at least 9 semester hours must have been in education courses.
or
Combination of education and experience -- at least 24 semester hours in a field related to the work of the position to be filled, of which at least 9 semester hours must have been in education courses, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience must reflect the level and kind described in C below.
or
Four years of experience that demonstrated a thorough understanding of the principles and practices underlying the work of this series. This experience must have been of such character and diversity to demonstrate that the applicant possesses an understanding of the field comparable to that normally acquired through successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university.
or
At least 1 full academic year of professional teaching experience. This experience is defined as full and primary responsibility, under general supervision, for instruction of assigned students in an accredited school or institution. This includes responsibility for preparing and presenting lessons and for evaluating students' progress, including a determination of the students' success or failure according to established criteria. Serving in an assistant capacity to a professor without the authority to determine the students' success or failure to meet course requirements does not meet this criterion.
In addition to meeting the Basic Requirement, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications requirements below.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
GS-11: Applicant must meet the basic education requirement and possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service that includes: Leading an academic team; Designing and instructing a university course; and Managing human capital by hiring, training, and managing retention specialists.
OR
EDUCATION: Possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
OR
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. Only graduate level education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be combined with experience.
Only experience and education obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered.
Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year (52 weeks) of service at the next lower grade level.
