This position is located in the Fleet and Family Readiness Program, MWR Department, Naval Air Station Fort Worth. Incumbent serves as A Sports Specialist Plans and administers a segment of a sports program for a military community. Responsibilities include team sports programs and activities involving a variety of athletically-related recurring and non-recurring activities such as special and intramural events, etc.
Duties

Responsibilities include team sports programs and activities involving a variety of athletically-related recurring and non-recurring activities such as special and intramural events, etc.
Selects and emphasizes competitive sports activities to be offered, both within the required basic program categories and those additional ones possible through available resources and desirable in terms of participant's interests and needs.
Schedules and publicizes various tournaments, and other sports events.
Solicits volunteers and part time paid service for activities.
Evaluates the effectiveness of ongoing sports activities from the standpoint of participants' response, resources, program objectives.
Ensuring playing surface is properly maintained, safe and ready for play.
Responsible for scheduling of courts, tracks, and fields, and regularly inspects for repairs, cleanliness, etc.
Serves sports official with primary responsibility of officiating basketball, baseball/softball, soccer, volleyball, flag football or other organized sports the Fitness Program.
Displays an appropriate professional demeanor at all times and manages participant and spectator behavior to ensure sportsmanship is maintained at all times. Handles on-site disputes involving participant or spectator conflicts.
Inspects sporting equipment, playing area, and/or examines participants for correct attire in order to ensure compliance with event and safety regulations. Directs participants to assigned areas such as starting blocks, side of field/court.
Confers with other sports officials, coaches and participants and facility managers in order to provide information, coordinate activities and discuss problems. Compiles scores and other athletic records.
Judges performance in sporting competitions and events.
Enforces established rules of the game/sport, awards points, imposes penalties, and determines results with honestly and integrity.
Collects required data and transmits to supervisor the information needed to submit reportable incidents to leadership and higher headquarters.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. Background investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms.
- Must successfully pass the E-verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.

- May be required to pass pre-employment examinations.
- Must provide proof of U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National.
- A valid State driver's license is required to operate motor vehicles.

- The employee must occasionally be able to lift and/or move up to 40 lbs.
- Stamina sufficient to stand, walk, run, or squat for long periods of time commensurate with the sport to be officiated.
Qualifications

One year of specialized experience directly related to the duties described above. Qualifying experience must have been equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression.
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
A minimum of three years' experience that demonstrates work experience in directing sports activities and a proficiency in developing a sports program tailored to the needs of the participants. A degree in physical education from an accredited college in Physical Education may be substituted for two years of experience.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
