The Housekeeping Aid position is located within the Environmental Management Service and directly supports various critical in-patient and out-patient departments, including but not limited to the Emergency Department, Surgical Department, Intensive Care Unit, Lab, Oncology, Audiology, Medical/Surgical Unit, Radiology, Specialty Clinic, Physical Therapy, Unit and Community Care Center at the Cheyenne VA Medical Center and multiple CBOCs across Wyoming, Nebraska and Northern Colorado.
Duties
The housekeeping aides who maintain VA facilities for Veterans and their families are essential to the patient care experience at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). A VA healthcare career as a housekeeping aide means working alongside other Veterans, who make up 85 percent of the housekeeping staff.
As a Housekeeping Aid, you will perform a full range of light and heavy cleaning, disinfecting and sterilizing in a variety of common use and patient care areas. Veterans rely on the skills of these professionals to keep patient areas clean and safe by disinfecting and sterilizing surfaces and entire patient care rooms, and by addressing spills quickly, discarding trash, mopping and vacuuming in halls and rooms throughout the Cheyenne VA Medical Center and multiple CBOCs across Wyoming, Nebraska and Northern Colorado.
Duties include cleaning wards, patient rooms, beds, storerooms, offices, corridors, restrooms, shower rooms, and other areas. Housekeeping Aides sweep, mop, scrub (machine) floors, vacuum carpets and upholstered furniture, empty waste baskets, clean light globes and Venetian blinds, wash walls, windows and ceilings by climbing small ladders, refill toilet tissue and towel dispensers and move furniture. Housekeeping Aides carry out assignments with minimal supervision.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
Work Schedule: Permanent, Full/Part Time positions, 1st shift and 2nd shift available, which also includes weekdays, weekends, holidays. Shifts may change to meet the need of the Agency.

Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): This position is eligible for a 20% Critical Skills Incentive (CSI) in addition to regular salary. Candidates may be eligible for a lump sum CSI for a pro-rated amount if onboard prior to the CSI expiration date. Eligible candidates will be required to sign a service agreement agreeing to an obligated service period.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The position demands continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. The work requires the occasional use of heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g., wall washers, industrial type buffers) weighing over 50 pounds. The duties necessitate considerable dexterity, hand, foot, and eye coordination, and concentration as well as visual acuity to see dirt, dust and debris.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is normally performed indoors with adequate heat, light, and ventilation. Some work may be performed outdoors where there may be exposed to varying degrees of heat and cold as well as inclement weather. PPE may be required in some circumstance as exposure to possible contagious diseases, blood and bloody secretion are inherent to this position. Care is required to avoid serious injuries (i.e., broken bones) when working on ladders, or when using 30-100-pound power equipment or handling hazardous materials.
