Salary: $33 - 38 per hour

You will serve as a WOOD CRAFTER in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Duties

You will compute the dimensions of a number of interlocking parts. You will determine the tools, machinery, and equipment needed to complete wood crafting work assignments and projects. You will make, repair, or reconstruct high grade wooden items (e.g., cabinetry, furniture, decorative woodwork) for use in historic buildings. You will advise management and mixed trade supervisors on wood crafting processes for assigned projects. You will complete, close, and certify assigned task group instructions (TGIs) for wood craft projects.

  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Qualifications

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Reading and interpreting blueprints and sketches and create layouts and jigs, for manufacture of doors, window sashes, cabinets and wood trim. Fabricating millwork lists as to quantities and sizes from blueprints. Manufacturing of wood trim and components must be of exact nature to allow for rapid installation at job sites. Utilizing various properties and characteristics of a wide of variety of woods, veneers, wood substitutes, gluing and bonding agents, and other woodworking materials. Assessing strength and durability of wood and wood substitutes including their hardness, resistance to weather, tendency to warp, reaction to polishing and finishing.
