The Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic is located at the Carl Vinson Veteran Affairs Medical Center in the Facilities Management Service. The incumbent will serve as the subject matter expert for the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of all electronics industrial controls equipment. This position is covered by AFGE bargaining unit.

Duties

The duties of the position include, but are not limited to: Installs, repairs, overhauls, and performs service and maintenance on a variety of commercial and industrial heating and air conditioning systems. Performs and documents preventive maintenance and safety inspections to insure safe, proper, and reliable operation of these instruments and devices. Performs preventive maintenance inspections on electronic equipment; inspects new CMR and building service equipment received at the VAMC. Responsible for functional equipment safety regarding the operator and any other affected equipment user. Modifies devices and systems settings as required by the user and medical center needs or for more reliable performance. Instructs other electronic mechanics, HVAC mechanics, equipment users and others on the proper use, capability and maintenance of electronic equipment. Interpret technical documents (theory of operations, user guides, schematics, blueprints) to perform repairs on equipment where there may or may not be prior experience. Capable of reading and understanding technical literature related to electronic devices and systems as found in trade and specialty journals. Working knowledge of occupational safety including safety of electronic repair, confined space, lockout-tag out, infection control, safe power tool usage, and safe use of chemicals. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/26/2024. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Work is performed from ladders, scaffolding and platforms, under equipment, in crawlspaces and in hard to reach locations. The incumbent is required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, crawl, and work in uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries, pushes and pulls items. The incumbent may occasionally be required to lift/move items up to 40 pounds in a safe manner.
