Duties

You will use technical manuals, manufacturer's manuals, and special instructions to install, repair, or maintain equipment and systems associated with high pressure steam boilers. You will use hand tools, portable power tools, and test equipment (e.g., acetylene torch, ammeters, electronic leak detectors, control devices, hydraulic press, micrometers) to repair and maintain high pressure steam boilers or equipment. You will determine damage to heating, fuel power boilers, and associated equipment when planning repair and modification projects. You will inspect boiler equipment (e.g., oil levels, cycling, overheated bearings, leaking valves/components, unusual noises) to determine repairs needed.

  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Qualifications

The Screen-out Element for this position is:1) Inspecting, maintaining, and repairing a variety of domestic heating equipment and systems such as hot air furnaces, oil fueled or natural gas heaters, steam boilers, and other systems and equipment with similar heat sources, controls, and circulating methods; 2) Replacing damaged parts and components on heating equipment and systems; 3) Maintaining automatic regulating of meters, indicators, controllers, gauges and recording instruments to monitor temperature, steam pressure, fuel flow, and water levels; and 4) Cutting, bending, threading pipe and fittings to repair leaks in piping systems of heating equipment. .Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations.
