This position serves as an Electronic Digital Computer Mechanic in the Electronics Section of Facilities Management Service (FMS) Line of the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS).

Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Maintains, repairs, overhauls and installs electronic equipment, systems and associated electrical devices and equipment; Services flat panel LED/LCD; computer monitors; televisions; printer and fax machine hardware repairs and software updates; uninterruptible power supplies; high-security shredders; telecommunication radios; digital GPS clocks; and, other peripheral computer equipment; Services life/public safety systems serviced including nurse call and code systems; central fire alarm systems; and, access control systems; Applies test and inspection techniques to various engineering aspects to make on-site determinations; Interprets drawings, plans and specifications; Modifies parts, instruments and equipment in conjunction with FMS and clinical staff; Participates in exchange of data and discussion of technical problems at meetings; and Performs other duties as assigned Work Schedule: Sunday - Thursday; 7:00am - 3:30pm, 3:00pm - 11:30pm, 11:00pm - 7:30am OR Monday - Friday; 6:00am-2:30pm, 7:00am - 3:30pm, 3:00pm - 11:30pm, 11:00pm - 7:30am OR Tuesday - Saturday 7:00am - 3:30pm, 3:00pm - 11:30pm, 11:00pm - 7:30am (Shift to be determined at time of selection) Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not approved

Qualifications

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Work requires considerable standing, stooping and bending; and working on ladders and scaffolds requiring overhead stretching; or in numerous cramped and awkward positions. Nailing and using other hand tools requires considerable, exhausting movements. The work involves lifting and carrying items weighing up to 90 pounds. The Electronics Mechanic will work inside and outside under inclement weather conditions. Safety gear must be worn because of prevailing hazards. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. For this position, the job element method is used to match what you, the applicant, can do against what the work calls for. Your knowledge, skills and abilities will be compared to the knowledge, skills and abilities (called job elements) needed for success. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1). Applicants who appear to meet the screen out element are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated from consideration. The potential eligibles are rated against the remainder of the job elements.
