As a Paralegal Specialist you will provide paralegal support for the Office of General Counsel at NASA. You will provide day-to-day support for both the Chief Counsel, Deputy Chief Counsel, and staff attorneys as well as support needed across the OGC Enterprise. This position requires onsite presence at the center where the position is being filled. Telework may be available consistent with center policies.
Duties
Perform paralegal duties independently as assigned by the Chief Counsel, Deputy Chief Counsel, and staff attorneys.
Review and organize complex factual material and other documentary data for investigations and trials.
Consult and coordinate with personnel regarding application of law/regulation to cases/discovery/requests/depositions/lawsuits, etc.
Provide advice on the most efficient method for preparing legal documents.
Maintain records management systems, and legal document databases. Tracks status of responses to client and external actions and manages pending legal files to ensure implementation action is taken when required.
Support OGC attorneys in multiple areas (Administrative law, Acquisition Integrity, Agreements, Employment/Labor law, ethics, fiscal, intellectual property, international, procurement, property/environmental, security and safety).
Organize and maintain technical and legal files, records, manuals, handbooks, and other related materials.
Prepare documents, responds to incoming actions, tracks, and ensures proper routing of high-level actions and policies through the use of electronic databases, receives telephone calls and visitors, and maintains attorney calendars.
Support and schedule meetings and events including periodic training, professional development, and business meetings.

Requirements
- Position subject to pre-employment background investigation or higher level clearance. Investigation/Clearance may differ and be required based on the duties/location-NASA Center requirements.

- Current Federal employees must meet qualifications, time in grade, and 90 days after competitive appointment requirements by the closing date of the announcement.
Qualifications
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
GS-11: To qualify at the GS-11 level, you must have:
a) One year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level:
Using document and case management systems to retrieve and compile reports and assist attorneys in the practice of law;
Using legal research platforms such as LEXIS/NEXIS or WESTLAW to conduct complex legal research, provide guidance, and compile information for use in two or more of the following areas of law: Administrative law, Acquisition Integrity, Agreements, Employment/Labor law, ethics, fiscal, intellectual property, international, procurement, property/environmental, security and safety;
Reviewing legal actions to ensure legal format is appropriate and in compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
OR
b) Completed all requirements for a doctoral degree (i.e., Ph.D. or equivalent) in an appropriate field
OR
c) Completed 3 full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or equivalent doctoral degree in an appropriate field
OR
d) LL.M., if related
OR
e) Have an equivalent combination of experience and graduate study as discussed in a), b), c) and d) above
