You will serve as a Police Officer of NAS MERIDIAN SEC DET.

Duties

You will conduct daily inspections of posts and take immediate action to correct discrepancies noted. You will direct traffic and issue citations for improper vehicle operations and parking violations. You will write reports to provide a description of facts surrounding a crime or an incident.

Requirements

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • The DON does not employ individuals for Law Enforcement Officer positions who have been convicted of a crime of domestic violence on or after 27 November 2002. You must submit DD Form 2760, Qualification to Possess Firearms before appointment.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. For The GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1. Investigating unusual situations pertaining to violations of the law; 2. Conducting checkpoints/roadblocks at various locations to reduce criminal activity; 3. Inspecting packages/personal belongings when admitting personnel into controlled areas; and 4. Responding to emergency calls for service while adhering to state and federal laws. For The GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Issuing citations in violation of law enforcement regulations; 2) Conducting investigations related to critical incidents (i.e., traffic accidents, domestic violence, assaults, child abuse/neglect) in accordance to policies and procedures; 3) Interviewing witnesses to gather information about incidents; and 4) Conducts inspections of vehicles to detect the unauthorized removal of classified material, government property, contraband, weapons, explosives or any items detrimental to security. For The GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: : 1) Issuing citations for violations of the law; 2) Preparing reports and orders for dissemination to other law enforcement officials; and 3) Protecting property, equipment, data, or materials. For The GS-04: Have at least six months of general experience that includes experience in administrative, clerical, technical, or military work that involved protecting property, equipment, data, or materials; or that involved making judgments based on the application of directions, rules, regulations, or laws; AND six months of specialized experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills. For The GS-03: Have at least six months of general experience that includes experience in administrative, clerical, technical, or military work that involved protecting property, equipment, data, or materials; or that involved making judgments based on the application of directions, rules, regulations, or laws. Education

For The GS-04:
Have successfully completed two years of study at an accredited school above the high school level with at least 12 semester hours in police administration, police law and evidence, police investigation, criminology, law enforcement, general law, or similar subjects closely related to police work. OR

Have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience.

For The GS-03:
Have successfully completed one year of study at an accredited school above the high school level with at least 6 semester hours of study pertinent to police work. OR

Have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
