About the Position: This is a Lead Phlebotomist position located at the 88th MDG, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.
- 2 years phlebotomy experience is strongly desired.
-Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.
-Non-Federal work experience may be creditable for leave purposes.

Duties
Leads at least three phlebotomists on a regular and recurring basis in the performance of work in a medical laboratory.
Distributes and balances the workload among the phlebotomists.
Provides on the job training to technicians in specific tasks and job techniques
Inventories and maintains a minimum stock level of consumable supplies.
Collects blood samples from inpatients, outpatients, and emergency room patients using aseptic techniques.
Verifies proper patient preparation for tests requested by provider, e.g., fasting, special diet, medication, drawing at certain times and days.
Provides administrative support to assigned section.
Provides support to and maintains good interpersonal communication with laboratory outpatients and beneficiaries.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- This position may require the incumbent to work weekends and/or holidays.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations; preparing reports of findings; using a variety of office automation and data management software; or technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work, that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, or Microbiology.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
