Duties
This position serves as the Assistant Chief of the Waterways Management (WWM) and Facility Inspection Division, assessing, managing, and coordinating waterways safety issues and initiatives for the Captain of the Port (COTP), Sector Columbia River zone in support of the Marine Transportation System (MTS).Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. - U.S. Citizenship is required.
- The position requires a valid state driver's license.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- This position requires a Secret clearance.
- Position may require "on call" duty status for after-hour emergencies.
- Night or weekend work may be required.
Qualifications
To Qualify for the GS-12: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the federal service.
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
Specialized experience include: Overseeing and executing rulemaking to help ensure maritime safety and security; providing guidance in the development of routine Safety and/or Security Zones, Regulated Navigation Areas, Special Local Regulations, other local regulations, and Marine Event Permits.
National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
