This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, Coast Guard Recruit Training Center, Support Services Division, Child Development Center, Cape May, NJ.
Duties
The role of this position is to serve as a senior teacher providing oversight and leadership of other staff in the care and education of children ages 6 weeks to 5 years. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: * Serving as the assistant director of the child development services program in a center with a capacity of 100 or more children. * Serving as first level supervisor for a child development staff up to 33 personnel, which includes, three (03) GS 5 positions and 30 NAF (full time & part time) employees. * Assisting in the operation of a developmental program that impacts the growth and development of children from infancy to school age. * Assisting the director prepare annual operating budgets for appropriated fund and non-appropriated fund budgets. * Exercising responsibility in enforcing health, fire, safety, and facility program regulatory requirements. * Providing on-the-job training and orientation for all new caregivers.

Qualifications
Qualifications: Applicant must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples include: experience in an early childhood developmental program for children aged from six weeks to 5 years; caring for children from 6 weeks to 6 years of age; participating in early childhood programs; explaining guidelines to others; and documenting development of children in the program.
-OR-Master's or equivalent graduate degree
-OR-2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
-OR-LL.B. or J.D., if related -OR-Combination of specialized experience and graduate level education that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.
