This position is located on the Kootenai NF located in Trout Creek, MT. This position provides Customer Service Representative services such as greeting visitors, answering telephones, responding to routine inquiries from a variety of customers and providing overall support to the administrative staff on the unit.

Duties

Greets visitors and answers the telephone. Provides routine information and answers many types of inquiries on all research and/or forest activities such as the whereabouts of key personnel and directions to facilities. Uses word processing software and printing equipment to create and print a variety of standardized documents. May use database or spreadsheet software to enter, revise, sort, or calculate, and retrieve data for standard reports. Serves as Collection Officer to sell such items as National Forest maps, Christmas tree permits, 2400-4’s (Forest Product Sale Permits), and Golden Age Passports in accordance with manual and handbook requirements. Is held accountable for the funds collected. Maintains accountability records as required.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. For more information on the qualifications for this position, visit the Office of Personnel Management's General Schedule Qualification Standards. Your application and resume must clearly show that you possess the experience requirements. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. Provide course descriptions as necessary. Specialized Experience Requirement:GS-04: One year of general experience. Qualifying specialized experience is defined as meeting at least one of the following: Clerical, office, or other customer service work such as greeting visitors and responding to phone or written inquiries, using word processing software or other automated software to produce routine documents; or collecting funds from sales. OR Associate's degree or two years of successfully completed education above high school. OR A combination of the experience AND the education described above. GS-05: Applicant's must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience is defined as two or more of the following: Communicating with people, representing the organization to customers and other external sources in person, by phone, or in writing; Answering or asking customer questions to obtain or provide information; Reconciling records of sales and/or other financial transactions; Using computers and computer systems (including hardware or software) to extract information or create standard reports. OR Successfully completed four (4) years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts). OR A combination of the experience AND the education described above. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
