This position is assigned to the Patient Experience Office under the Associate Director for Patient Care Services at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS). Occupation involves administrative work such as receiving different requests for information from staff, patients, Veterans, and family members of Veterans, and being able to determine where calls are directed to within the VA Puget Sound, and facilities outside the VA facility.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Operates voice and digital paging system, long distance pagers and hospital-wide overhead voice paging system. Communicates with VA Police and Facilities Management using the high frequency radio. Functions as the emergency 911 Operator for the Medical Center. Determines the need and urgency of each call. Organizes, prepares and prints out the computerized on-call schedules, quick reference guides and other organizational telephone and reference lists utilizing Word and Excel computer programs. Provides exceptional customer service. Assists in providing training to new employees. Performs clerical duties, including but not limited to, typing documents on the computer, record-keeping, quick reference guides, on-call schedule, cascade call-back list, timekeeping duties, ordering supplies and other duties, as assigned. Assists in ordering publications and the correct distribution of the publications to the appropriate service lines. Performs other duties as assigned. To qualify for this position, you must meet one of the following: Experience: Applicants must possess one year of general experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must clearly indicate the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. ~OR~ Education: Successfully completed two years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. NOTE: Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation. ~OR~ Combination: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (beyond the first year) and experience, as described above, to meet total qualification requirements. Education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary with reaching, dialing numbers on the console, keyboarding, carrying of light supplies required. Because calls received are emergent and so varied, the position can be emotionally taxing.
