THIS IS A NORTH DAKOTA NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
This ND National Guard position is for a EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST, Position Description Number D1257000 and is part of the ND G4, National Guard.
Duties
As an EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST, you will provide instruction and assistance to state unit personnel regarding Army National Guard equipment and maintenance management.
Serve a recognized authority on the repair and operation of various types of Army National Guard equipment.
Provide instruction and assistance regarding equipment maintenance procedures, techniques, and methods.
Provide advice, assistance, and guidance regarding maintenance management systems, material readiness programs, cost reduction programs, and maintenance shop practices in maintenance facilities.
Receive, review, and process various reports and compile and submit consolidated reports.
Prepare and conduct both classroom and on-the-job training designed to upgrade, improve, and / or update the knowledge and working skills of unit maintenance personnel.
Develop, write, update, and teach units of instruction for new equipment training.
Evaluate training progress in areas such as basic mechanic principles.
Evaluate directives to ensure adherence to standard methods, conformity in maintenance procedures, and the proper use of maintenance equipment, facilities, and personnel.
Recommend policy, procedure, or operation changes, as required, to facilitate and ensure efficiency in maintenance operations and manpower utilization.
Review the effectiveness and efficiency of equipment and maintenance management and need for improvement of existing practices.
Review and evaluate information in technical reports, logistical studies, supply data systems, and observations / inspections of maintenance organizations.
Research material pertaining to maintenance management.
Utilize computer software programs to identify errors, equipment. non-mission capable time, and to determine a course of action to improve readiness.
Provide methods for improving, consolidating, simplifying, and standardizing operations and management of maintenance activities.
Perform hands-on maintenance procedures to personnel on proper trade techniques, practices, and explain safety precautions involved in maintenance.
Provide guidance and assistance to ensure effective and smooth maintenance operations.
Requirements
- NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position.
- This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the ND National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
- Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
- Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
- Applicants who are not currently a member of the ND National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the ND National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
- Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

- May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
- Participation in direct deposition is mandatory.
- You must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
- This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.

MOS is not a disqualifying factor of eligibility; however, the selected applicant must obtain the compatible MOS. Please work with your unit

QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE
Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates' experience should be evaluated on the basis of duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have experience, education, or training which has provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more classes of equipment. The experience must include knowledge of standard shop terminology; a basic knowledge of mechanical principles relating to equipment; experience must demonstrate the ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical publications; knowledge is of the type gained from technical training, education, and experience in functions such as repairing, overhauling, maintaining, constructing, or inspecting equipment; and experience using computer and automation systems.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 24 months experience, education or training which has provided knowledge and skill in applying principles, concepts, and methods of equipment design; experience in the use of tools and test equipment; experience developing, installing, inspecting or revising equipment maintenance programs and techniques.
