This position is located in the Northern Region, Region 1 with a duty location of Missoula, MT. This position serves as a technical assistant in the performance of a variety of hydrology tasks, either as a crew member or individual worker. Duties

Duties listed are at the GS-09 level of the position. Serves as a senior hydrologic technician performing semi-professional work in support of professional engineers and hydrologists. Field work includes the installing, testing and maintaining of hydrologic and water quality instruments measuring precipitation, streamflow, stage, dissolved oxygen, pH, conductivity, turbidity, suspended solids, etc. Clearly communicate, manage complex projects, and collaboratively participate as a team member. Collects and notates all data records relative to corrections that need to be made when the data is processed. Performs a variety of computations and analysis of water resource data. Watershed restoration project development, grant writing support, project design, project management, and monitoring.

Qualifications

Provide course descriptions as necessary. Basic Requirement: For the GS-08: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-7). Examples of specialized experience are defined as performing one of the following: Prepared reports, diagrams, charts, and graphs in support of technical work in hydrology; Installed, inspected, serviced, maintained, and operated hydrological instruments, devices, and equipment in the field, laboratory, or office. Assisted with planning for modification of existing data collection stations or installation of new stations to augment or improve existing instrumentation; OR Two full years (36 semester/54 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level education or master's degree if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position (such as major study in an appropriate field of science, engineering, construction, or industrial technology); OR Combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position (in excess of 18 semester/27 quarter hours) and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. For the GS-09: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as performing two of the following: Performed hydrologic technician work in support of professionals engaged in scientific studies of surface water, meteorology, sediment and debris production, and water quality for water resource and land management planning and design; Prepared correspondence relating to the request for or transmittal of hydrologic data, or any other matter relating to instrumentation programs; Compiled and analyzed hydrologic data for use in studies or reports. OR Two full years (36 semester/54 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level education or master's degree if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position (such as major study in an appropriate field of science, engineering, construction, or industrial technology); OR Combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position (in excess of 18 semester/27 quarter hours) and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Work Experience: Your resume must clearly document the following for each block of work experience; the beginning day, month and year the work assignment started and ended; the hours worked per week; position title, and series and grade if applicable; and description of duties performed.
