Duties

The major duties of this position include the following: Performs all aspects of the carpentry, plumbing, painting trades at journeymen level. Repairs and maintains historic buildings, government housing, support structures, and buildings within accepted safety, health, and sanitary conditions. Perform carpentry work on structures and existing buildings. Construct and maintain both frame and masonry type structures. Construct, repair, and replace floors, shelving, rafters, stairways, doors, windows, and roofs. Performs electrical wiring necessary to maintain existing single or three phase systems, performing routine installation, trouble shooting, and repairs to residential appliances and related items in absence of a qualified electrician. Performs all phases of painting such as surface preparation, spraying, brushing, rolling, mixing, matching, stains, the selection of paints, oil or latex, rust prevention, etc. Input data into the computerized Facility Management Software System (FMSS). Employee must show knowledge of basic windows operating systems, use of electronic email and word processing programs. Ensures the safe operation and maintenance of equipment, tools, and work sites. Independently performs a variety of journeymen duties related to maintenance work that ranges from carpentry of historic/public strcutures to daily maintenance activities such as electrical, plumbing, masonry, and other daily activities. Plan and lay out projects, making modifications when necessary. Uses initiative and sound judgment to accomplish work assignments.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT) Technical Practices Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc. Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment Use of Measuring Instruments Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. Knowledge of Materials If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration.
