Duties

Performs technical work assignments that consist of a number of different and unrelated processes. Develop and initiate changes in prescribed procedures to expedite corrective action. Make recommendations based on preliminary data interpretation and analysis. Performs quality assurance and data integrity review of electronic data and records. Interprets drawings, plans and specifications. Drafts technical documentation for assigned engineering work assignments.

Qualifications

In order to be rated as qualified for this position, the HR Office must be able to determine that you meet the education and or specialized experience requirement - this information must be clearly supported in the resume. For GS-09: One year of specialized experience equivalent in responsibility and scope to the GS-08 grade level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: Using Engineering software to design and document transportation, water, structural, mechanical, electrical, or hydroelectric systems; Using CADD software to prepare sketches, drawings, diagrams and charts; drafting technical documentation of engineering work by conducting research, collecting data and writing reports; AND interpreting test results to formulate field notes to generate engineering technical drawings, charts, and reports. **OR** Two full years of graduate-level education or a master's degree directly related to the of the Engineering Technician position. Related work is defined as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, constructions, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics. **OR** Combination of experience and graduate level education as described above that equates to one year of experience. For GS-10: One year of specialized experience equivalent in responsibility and scope to the GS-09 grade level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: Applying analytical methods and techniques to resolve procedural or recurring issues with equipment failure; determining data requirements to facilitate testing, evaluating proposed material designs, or evaluating instrumentation data for validity and anomalies; Using CADD software to prepare sketches, drawings, diagrams and charts; developing presentations on geology, hydrology, structural, electrical, mechanical, or soil science, to include technical drawings, as part of cooperatively work with professionals, specialists, or technical engineering assignments. For GS-11: One year of specialized experience equivalent in responsibility and scope to the GS-10 grade level in Federal service. Specialized experience defined as: Developing or modifying work methods to provide advisory and technical engineering service on functions and practices; recommending appropriate solutions to resolve interrelated problem and issues; AND Using CADD software to prepare sketches, drawings, diagrams and charts; presenting information or data on geology, hydrology, structural, electrical, mechanical, or soil science, to include technical drawings as part of cooperative work with professionals, specialists, or technical engineering assignments. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Time-In-Grade: Current career or career-conditional employees of the Federal government, or former career or career-conditional employees, who have a break in service of less than one year, are required to meet the time-in-grade restriction of one year of Federal experience at the next lower-grade, with few exceptions outlined in 5 CFR 300.603(b). Applicants eligible under the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) are not required to meet time-in-grade restrictions in order to be considered. You must meet all Eligibility and Qualification requirements, including time-in-grade restrictions and any selective placement factors if applicable, by 02/02/2024.

Education

This vacancy announcement allows substituting education for experience.
