Supports FMA's mission to audit the financial statements of federal agencies, the consolidated financial statements of the U.S. Government and conduct performance audits of agencies' financial management systems. The primary purpose of the Assistant Director is to manage all aspects of multiple FMA teams assigned to engagements or projects, serve as an expert, and demonstrate leadership in supporting and empowering staff and teams.

Duties

Manage information system control audits supporting FMA's financial statement audits and financial related performance audits of highly complex, interconnected, and sensitive financial management systems. Supervise staff in the analyses of financial management business processes, financial operations, reporting, and controls. Provide vision, direction, and focus to the assigned engagement to ensure the soundness of engagement design, scope, and effective utilization of allocated resources within and across teams. Anticipate information needs of external parties and facilitate making the information readily available. Represent GAO in discussions with congressional and agency officials and other external stakeholders. Consider the best means of communication and produce or guide others to develop clear and logical communications that are targeted to the audience and reflect the value of the work done. Advise and collaborate on information systems auditing with engagement teams and others across the organization on the use of state of the art technology, tools and technical methods and procedures by identifying strengths and weaknesses of approaches and adjusting team skills and knowledge to address a wide range of situations. Develop and supervise employees by setting clear expectations, providing regular performance feedback and accurate evaluations, coaching and overseeing development activities, providing opportunities to increase capabilities, and appropriately recognizing contributions.

Qualifications

You must have a minimum of 52 weeks of GAO experience at Band II, Band IIB, or equivalent experience in another banded pay plan (i.e., PA-II, PT-III, and MS-I) by the effective date of change to higher level. The effective date of the change to higher level--promotion--will be 05/05/2024.
