Duties
You will install, maintain, and repair the main operating mechanical components of large, complex heating, ventilation; air conditioning, and refrigeration systems (HVAC).
You will conduct visual and audible examination of equipment components by applying prescribed test procedures and equipment, and by exploration of probable reasons for equipment failure.
You will utilize tools and test equipment such as voltmeters, vacuum pumps, pressure gauges, and humidity recorders to diagnose and repair equipment.

- You will be required to possess and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Universal Certification license from an EPA approved certification program.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- This position may be considered ESSENTIAL and the incumbent will be required to report for duty or held in a duty status to provide support before, during, and/or after special emergency situations, disasters, or periods of increased security threat.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current CPR certification.
Qualifications
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: The ability to do the work of an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Your resume must show that you have the ability to perform common tasks including: 1) Diagnose, locate, and repair malfunctions to the small cooling units such as coolers, refrigerators, evaporative coolers or similar equipment; 2) Use trade tools and test equipment such as voltage, amperage, and ohm meters, electronic refrigerant leak detectors, temperature gauges, capacitors, and analyzers; AND 3) Follow safety procedures and practices when repairing air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: The ability to do the work of an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Your resume must show that you have the ability to perform common tasks including: 1) Performs specific tasks in support of higher level work in compliance with specific instructions; 2) Follows all guidelines and procedures to use common hand tools and portable power tools associated with the air conditioning trade and 3) Demonstrated ability to learn new skills.
