About the Position: This position will be located at the 60th MDG Travis AFB, Nutritional Medicine. Travis Air Force Base in California is located in Solano County in Northern California. It is halfway between Sacramento and San Francisco. Duties
Prepare and cook a wide variety of foods in large quantities for regular and modified diet menus.
Plan and coordinate the preparation of entire meals involving quantity food production, where a number of items are cooked simultaneously and require varied cooking methods, timing requirements, multiple ingredients, and numerous interrelated steps.
Develop new and modify standardized recipes for quantity cooking and test and evaluates new food products.
Issue and store food items in accordance with inventory and sanitation requirements.
Provide instruction on food production principles and techniques on sanitation and safety practices and procedures on core cooking functions.
Maintain and clean tools and specialized equipment.
Utilize health safety and sanitation practices procedures rules and regulations to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 40 pounds is required.
- Immunization screening is required. Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
- This position may require the incumbent to work during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Cook ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common food preparation duties. I can coordinate with cooking performed at different work centers and operate powered/mechanical kitchen equipment (e.g., choppers, slicers, shredders, grinders and mixers). I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL EFFORTS: The worker is subject to continuous standing and walking, and frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending. They frequently lift and move objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted and occasionally lift or move objects weighing over 40 pounds with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers.
WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed in the kitchen area which is well lighted, but is often hot and noisy. The worker is exposed to steam, fumes, and odors from cooking and to extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigeration or freezing units. There is danger of slipping on wet floors that have been mopped or where food has been spilled. The worker is subject to possible cuts from knives and burns from steam, hot foods, stoves, and hot grease and water.
