About the Position: This position is located at Darnall Army Medical Center in Fort Cavazos, Texas.
Duties
Perform laboratory analysis of a wide selection of radioactive materials in several forms.
Implement radiation safety policies and procedures for all CRDAMC radiation sources to minimize exposures.
Takes measurements and wipe tests as appropriate.
Collect data from multiple sources through the monitoring, sampling process and then evaluate these measurements to identify hazards.
Use appropriate radiation detection and measurement equipment to define ambient dose about radiation from doctors, nurses, other hospital personnel and the general public.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- One-year supervisory probationary period required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the federal service which includes performing laboratory analysis of radioactive materials in several forms (liquid, gas, solid, etc); implementing radiation safety policies to reduce exposure; and conducting tests of x-ray equipment (medical, dental, or veterinary) to ensure proper performance.
OR
Education: Two years of graduate level education OR a Master's degree in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as physics, geophysics, chemistry, hydrology, health physics, etc. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education (directly related to the occupation) and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
