This position services the Naval Air Station Pensacola's wellness/fitness facilities. The purpose of this position is to provide preventative maintenance and repair to all fitness equipment including cardiorespiratory training equipment (treadmills, exercise bicycles, cross-trainers, row machines, Stairmaster type steppers, and other specialized training equipment.) to include mechanical maintenance and repairs required to ensure an adequate supply of exercise equipment to satisfy patron needs.
Duties
Performance of manufacturer's recommended preventive maintenance at scheduled intervals and maintaining documentation of said maintenance.
Maintain records of equipment purchases, delivery set-up, replacement, lending of equipment to other entities, DRMO proceedings and disposal.
Diagnosis of computer control, electrical and mechanical problems and formulate the most cost effective strategy for remedy.
Participate in evaluation of existing equipment and provide input for future purchases of exercise equipment.
Provide staff orientation and training regarding simple daily cleaning procedures.
Trouble shoot facility problems not related to exercise equipment, which may affect the staff operation of facilities, and either repair or refer to appropriate tradesmen for repair.
Assist exercise instructors in planning and set-up for special events.
Assist Command Fitness Leaders with specials needs associated with events.
Serve as Hasardous Materislas POC for all facilites.
Serve as POC for Prevenative Medical Inspections.
Assist Athletic Director and Fitness Director in planning, preparation and conducting of special events.
Requirements
- You must go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9.
- May be required to pass pre-employment examinations.
- A valid State driver's license is required to operate motor vehicles.
- Must have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
- Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. Background investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms.
- Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
Qualifications
Documented and verifiable training in the maintenance and repair of exercise equipment as provided by the manufacturers of exercise equipment such as Life Fitness Inc., Nautilus Inc., Body Masters and other manufacturers of equipment used at MWR facilities.
A minimum of two years of employment history preforming maintenance and repair tasks required by this position.
Training by HAZMAT, OSHA and other nationally recognized organizations.
Knowledge of the fundamental policies and procedures involved in assessing and responding to written assessments provided via safety and preventative medicine inspections.
Ability to prioritize tasks and carry out assignments independently and/or as a member of a collaborative effort.
Must possessing individual initiative, imaginative and creative problem solving skills, excellent communication skills in interacting with patrons, vendors and other MWR personnel.
Reports to the NAS Pensacola Fitness Director, which is under limited supervision.
Must be thoroughly aware of all related guidelines and implement sound judgment in the application of all directives emanating from:
Department of the Navy
Naval Air Station Pensacola instructions and directives.
MWR Department Standard Operating Procedures
Professional health related fields
The work involves consideration, evaluation and selection of variety methods of diagnosis and repair options as set forth by the manufacturers specifications.
Ancillary responsibilities also require an understanding of local regulations, policies and the exercising of judgment in the interpreting and adaptation to guidelines.
The incumbent's professional ability to carry out assigned responsibilities is evaluated by the Fitness Director utilizing patron satisfaction responses, visual inspection of facilities and records and daily interaction.
Contacts include all eligible patrons, employees, vendors, manufacturers, and administrative personnel of MWR and the Department of the Navy.
The work is a combination of intense and demanding physical activity involving considerable bending, lifting and periods of sedentary record keeping and recording. Walking, standing, bending, lifting up to 50 pounds is routinely required when preforming periodic maintenance and repair of exercise equipment. Work schedule is self-determined by programmed maintenance and spontaneous repair incidence. Typically to include evening and weekend hours essential to effect repairs in as timely a manner as possible.
The work involves normal discomfort associated with mechanical repairs to machinery in confined spaces. Fitness facilities are adequately heated and ventilated.
