About the position: This position will be assigned to the Outdoor Recreation. This position is considered Regular Full Time. The position is guaranteed 40 hours. As a regular employee, you are eligible for accrued leave and benefits, including medical, life insurance, 401(k), and retirement. This is a driving position and requires proof of a driving record for the last 7 years.

Duties

Plans, develops, coordinates, and conducts a variety of classes and trips in support of a diverse Outdoor Adventure Program (OAP). Within overall plans developed by higher levels, selects activities and services to be offered in addition to required basic programs. Schedules, publicizes, and promotes various classes, trips, and other activities specifically targeting high-risk adventure programs. Ensures compliance with state and local agencies and their regulatory requirements. Analyzes all related costs and calculates price. Accounts for all funds involved in the program and makes recommendations. Assists with the budget for fiscal year program requirements. Develops and implements procedures to monitor, track and document program effectiveness and success. Reports progress and make recommendations on program planning, coordination and follow-up procedures to the Chief, Outdoor Recreation. Utilizes various software programs in researching, networking, exchanging information and establishing historical files. Resolves customer issues and complaints. Monitors and tracks complaints to evaluate and then ensures quality service and client satisfaction. Assists the Chief, Outdoor Recreation in planning, developing, and conducting an outdoor recreation training program, as well as a risk management plan. Monitors the condition and inventory of equipment and supplies used to support the program. Requisitions new equipment and supplies. Performs preventative maintenance on OAP equipment and assists in repairing and maintaining all recreation equipment assigned to Outdoor Recreation. Assigns, directs, and reviews the work of assigned employees and volunteers. Recruits, organizes, and trains part ­time contracted guides, volunteer leaders, and program coordinators. Assigns work, explains work requirements, methods and procedures to ensure proper accomplishment of assigned activities. Evaluates work performances of OAP volunteers and contracted guides. Assists the Chief, Outdoor Recreation in providing transportation/vehicle support to the Outdoor Recreation Program. Plans and schedules assigned vehicles to support the needs of the Outdoor Recreation Program. Requests and coordinates vehicle requirements from transportation or other sources when assigned vehicles are unable to meet program needs. Assists the Chief, Outdoor Recreation in implementing an overall program on safety, maintenance, vehicle operations. and inspections or assigned non-appropriated fund vehicles. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: Must have extensive knowledge of the concepts, principles, and techniques of a broad range of outdoor recreation programs, which would have been gained in a position at a campground, recreational sales store, or comparable business. Documented experience in the outdoor recreation field with appropriate certifications; e.g., Wilderness First Aid, Kayak Instructor, Swift Water Rescue, etc, is preferred. In depth knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations; e.g. boaters safety, camping safety, etc, also preferred. Strong organization and planning skills required. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to motivate, train, and work effectively with coworkers and volunteers. Knowledge of and experience with an unusually large variety of outdoor equipment and its functional use. Ability to perform general maintenance and repairs to recreational equipment. Knowledge of lifesaving techniques applied to WSJ, skiing, rafting, hiking and other outdoor recreation activities. Progressively responsible computer experience to include spreadsheet and database experience is required. Requires carrying up to 40 pounds over long distances. Subject to satisfactory completion of a pre-employment physical. Must already be or be able to be certified as an instructor guide in rafting, Red Cross WSl, ski patrol, first aid, and other outdoor activities. Will be subject to an uncommon tour of duty. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and provide an initial and annual copy of their OMV driving record. Must have the ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe manner. This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACl). Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
