This position is located within Northern Arizona VA Health Care System (NAVAHCS), Facilities Maintenance Section of Facilities Management Service, located in Prescott, AZ. The primary purpose of the Maintenance Supervisor is to supervise and direct building maintenance, repairs and installations covered by the Utility System Operations, under the supervision of the Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Supervisor, Facilities Management Service throughout the medical center.
Duties
The incumbent is responsible for buildings and associated systems, including
preventative maintenance, repairs, installations, alterations, and renovations covered by
the Utility System Operations, which is comprised of the following trades: electrical,
electronic, maintenance mechanic/equipment mechanic, Steam, Medical Gas (Oxygen,
Air, Vacuum) etc.), HVAC, Pipefitter/Plumbing, Power Generation, Boiler and Chiller
Plants.
The major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Plans, schedules, coordinates, and directs work assignments, orders supplies and materials, and evaluates employee performance.
Serves as fulltime Maintenance Supervisor over supervisory duties over journeymen and workers at wage grades WG9 through WG10 & WL09.
Occasionally supervises temporary employees, upward mobility trainees or nonemployee
special program individuals such as incentive therapy, work study, or summer
students.
Directs the activities of the shop within the operating budget.
Directs the development of preventative maintenance schedules, work orders, alterations,
and modifications for utility systems.
Responsible for ensuring that preventive maintenance is performed on utility
systems and building service equipment according to established policies and
procedures.
May perform other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The incumbent must be physically able in body to direct the accomplishment of the above work. May be required to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, crawl, and work in awkward positions for prolonged periods. Handles and carries equipment, materials and tools weighing up to forty (40) pounds. Occasionally lifts and carries objects over ninety (90) pounds, with the assistance of others or lifting devices. The work can sometimes require strenuous physical exertion, climbing ladders and scaffolds, and in general have use of his/her limbs. Must visit all those areas where subordinates will be working for the purpose of instruction and/or inspection.
Working Conditions: Incumbent works indoors and outdoors. Work involves frequent walking, standing and occasional desk work. The position requires stooping, bending, or working in cramped conditions under extreme temperatures (hot and cold), and in inclement weather and/or awkward positions. Incumbent must be able to work in noisy, dirty, dusty, greasy, and sometimes humid environment. Subject to hazardous conditions which may include the risks such as: scrapes, cuts, bruises, burns, contusions, infections, broken bones, and respiratory ailments. The incumbent must be aware of these risks and be able to cope with them. Safety procedures must be followed, and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn, as required for the specific work area or task. Work may
be performed from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms.
