This position is for Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (FMWR) at Fort Drum, New York. FMWR includes Child and Youth Services, Business Recreation, and Support Services, which enable Soldier readiness, support the resiliency and well-being of Soldiers and Families. Duties

Performs a full range of simple cooking by preparing and cooking items that require little or no processing, such as pancakes, sausage, eggs, hamburgers, and fresh or canned vegetables. Prepares food by peeling, chopping, grinding, paring, cutting, slicing, dicing, pureeing, dredging, flouring, or breading. Operates a variety of kitchen equipment using gas, electricity, steam or microwave heat sources. Disassembles, cleans and assembles component parts and accessories, following safety procedures to avoid personal injury and damage to the equipment. Cleans, stores, and maintains all equipment and work areas after each use. Cleans other work areas and equipment, such as worktables, floors, walk-in refrigerators, etc., on an established cleaning schedule. Follows established sanitation procedures when handling food. Ensures that foods are stored at the correct temperatures to prevent bacteria growth.

• A one year probationary period may be required.
• Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
• Satisfactory completion of a minimum of 4 hours initial food sanitation and safety training is required within 30 days of employment and a minimum of 4 hours refresher training annually.
• Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3
• This position requires a favorably adjudicated T1/NACI background investigation.
• An employer referred pre-employment physical examination is required.
• Must be physically able to lift and carry items weighing up to 40 pounds.
• Must be physically able to occasionally lift objects weighing over 40 pounds with assistance of others.
• Must be physically able to stand, walk, stoop, reach, and bend for prolonged periods of time.
• Management reserves the right to reassign employees to other facilities.
• Work schedule may be irregular. The incumbent may be required to work, nights, weekends, holidays and/or special events.

Qualifications

All candidates MUST meet the following minimum qualifications: work experience in preparing foods and cooking simple foods and short orders in a cafeteria, restaurant, or mess, AND work experience storing foods to prevent spoiling, AND demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal instructions, particularly standard recipes, and detailed cooking instructions, AND demonstrated ability to operate, disassemble, and clean basic food service equipment such as griddles, broilers, and food grinders, AND ability to perform basic arithmetic (e.g., add, subtract, multiply etc...) to measure ingredients in a recipe. Demonstration of the following work behavior is desirable: Neatness and good grooming, AND Dependability, AND Ability to work under pressure.
