These positions are located at one of the Indian Health Service hospitals, clinics, or health centers in the Great Plains Area . The primary purpose of this position is to function as a Staff Dentist performing a full range of professional dental duties.

Duties
Independently examine, diagnose, and treat commonly encountered dental diseases or dental health problems.
Diagnose mal-occlusions, and pathological or irregular conditions and ensure proper referral of patients for evaluation or specialty care.
Provide all appropriate dental disease prevention measures for each patient treated.
Ensure appropriate medical records are maintained and updated in a timely manner.
Participate in the development and maintenance of public relations with other health disciplines and tribal health groups, as well as the community.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
Degree and Licensure Waiting Period for Impeding Graduates:
The Hiring Manager/Selecting Official may elect to utilize an available flexibility wherein applicants who are currently enrolled and expected to complete the required education and obtain the required licensure/certification/registration within up to 9 month (s) of applying, may be deemed tentatively qualified. Applicants who have not completed their education requirements (but who are within the established timeframe for qualifying) are strongly encouraged to submit documents to support this flexibility, such as:
1. Documentation from the educational institution's registrar, dean or other appropriate official that attests to the applicable timeframe for completion of the professional program/coursework, AND
2. A copy of the most recent unofficial transcript.
Basic Requirements for the Dental Officer Series 0680, GS-11 and GS-12:
Education: Applicants must have a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Medical Requirements: Applicants must be able to distinguish shades of color.
GS-11 Level: Applicants who meet the above 3 Basic Requirements qualify for the GS-11.
GS-12 Level: In addition to the above 3 Basic Requirements, you must also meet one of the following additional requirements to be considered:
Your resume must demonstrate 2 years of Professional Dentistry experience and/or training. This experience is equivalent to at least the GS-11 in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector. Qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth; treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions.
OR
Provide proof of completion of a 2-year Residency Program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science.
