You will serve as a PHYSICIAN (MEDICAL EVALUATION BOARD) in the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery of NMRTC PENSACOLA FL. This announcement uses the Expansion of Direct Hire Authority Personnel of the Department of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will evaluate patients for fitness for duty and for meeting the Medical Retention Determination Point (MRDP). You will conduct extensive research in complex cases by consultation with providers, clinical coordinators, and/or program managers of Department of the Navy. You will serve as the Medical Evaluation Board Approving Authority (MEBAA). You will conduct training and serve as board certified medical expert on the Medical Education Board (MEB) process to residents, interns, and other medical students/staff. You will conduct extensive research with all care providers, aggregate, interprets, and recommends course of action.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized.
  • Must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • In accordance with BUMED INST 6220.9B, this position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations and a signed (Condition of employment) consenting to such.
  • According to NMCPHC-TM-OEM 6260.7 Health Care Workers (HCW) with potential exposure to blood/ infectious materials (BOPIMs) will be offered the hepatitis B vaccine (HBV) or immunity testing.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Working in-depth knowledge of Medical Evaluation Board (MEB). Working in clinical areas or clinical specialties such as: occupational medicine, internal medicine, family medicine, and preventative medicine. Evaluating patients for fitness for duty and for meeting Medical Retention Determination Point (MRDP) by conducting a complex and comprehensive review of Disability Evaluation System. Conducting training and serving as a board certified medical expert on the Medical Evaluation Board (MEB).   • A Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada that is accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time my degree was obtained. (Note - A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
  • A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. AND
  • At least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. (Note - graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada).
