About the Position: This position is located in the Director of Medicine Department of Medicine Internal Medicine.Fort Meade is located between Washington DC and Baltimore. With approximately 56,000 employees, Fort Meade is Maryland's largest employer and is the second-largest workforce of any Army installation in the U.S.Applicant is expected to interact with patients across all age spectrum and disease complexity. Hours of operation are 0730 to 1630. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Perform routine clinical and administrative duties under the direct supervision of a nurse, physician and/or a healthcare administrator. Adjust times of appointments, based on changes in health care provider's schedule. Resolve scheduling and appointment problems. Schedule routine, regular, and follow up appointments in the surgical center. Prepare reports based upon the requirements specified and the intended use of the data or report. Generate data on a daily, weekly, monthly, and on demand basis to identify trends impacting on appointment availability and the efficient delivery of primary and urgent health care. Receive all patients and make a determination as to disposition (proceed to the laboratory, retrieve additional information, proceed to the doctor's office, be seated in the waiting area, etc.) based upon an established algorithm. Read and interpret the referring consults, doctors' notes and/or drug treatment protocol in order to select and schedule the appropriate tests.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 1 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
  • This position may require occasional temporary duty travel - 5%.
  • This position requires the ability to lift 25 lbs.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes documenting patient charts in a medical treatment facility or clinic setting; scheduling patient appointments and/or coordinating patient referral appointments; and preparing a variety of reports utilizing office automation tools such as Genesis. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. AND Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
