About the Position: TERM Position - this position is TERM, please see Additional Information tab for details. Position is in an office setting, high profile and fast paced environment, with ever changing work responsibilities. Duties also require frequent advance surveys and on-site Official and Oversight visits to different clinical departments within the medical center necessitating physical stamina for prolonged periods of walking, standing and climbing in various locations.

Duties

Actively provide support, access and special consideration for patients at all stages of recovery and their families in their engagement with leaders, dignitaries, and invited guests. Must have impeccable writing/grammar, multitasking abilities, and interpersonal skills. Personnel work collaboratively, are professionally attired and comport themselves with the utmost sensitivity, calm, resourcefulness, tact, and diplomacy. Coordinate and execute a wide-ranging protocol enterprise that incorporates diverse functions and issues; serves numerous distinct and specialized audiences. Expertise required for execution of high profile military events, joint ceremonials, and coordination of large- scale top-level meetings on global topics and emergent health care requirements. Conducts formal and informal briefings to Senior Leaders on the clinical care provided, ongoing complex topical research, care delivery methodologies and ongoing facility construction enhancements. Serves as escort for special guests and participating dignitaries, to ensure that they are handled with diplomacy and tact in line with international customs and courtesies. Design and actualize formal ceremonials to include joint, multi-national and multi-organization presentation of Flags. Formulate and recommend policies and procedures governing all matters pertaining to protocol functions. Independently provide consultation, research, and education on protocol customs, courtesies, and regulations/policies. Performs frequent advance surveys and on-site Official and Oversight visits to different clinical departments within the medical center. Official and Oversight Visits often include clinical or support site visits across the 240-acre campus, as well.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 4 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
  • Position has mandatory annual seasonal influenza vaccination requirement unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • Work preparation is performed in an office setting which is adequately heated and ventilated. Work execution is performed on site which is both indoors and outdoors subject to the elements.
  • On occasion, shift work/weekends/overtime may be required; must be able to accommodate flexible work schedule due to the nature of the work and the population served.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: : One year of specialized experience which may include working in a clinically-focused research university or in an academic medical environment to include any 3 of 5 specialized experience such as 1.) planning and executing multi-faceted protocol visits, specialized engagements, events and ceremonials; 2.) Acting in an advisory capacity to organizational leadership; 3.) conducting formal and informal briefings to Senior Leaders on protocol and international engagement; 4.) providing recommendations and assisting in the ongoing curation of an effective protocol policy, mindful of patients and their families; or 5.) maintaining a dignitary database to facilitate preparation of invitations and background information. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
