About the Position: This position is location on Fort Liberty NC. Coordinates, and implements programs for management and protection of the longleaf pine ecosystem, endangered and rare species and other non-game species and protection of wetlands on Fort Bragg and Camp Mackall.

Duties

Develops and coordinates installation wide habitat restoration program for the longleaf pine ecosystem, including surveys and protection for the RCW and other endangered and rare species, and their habitat. Identifies habitat in need of restoration; serves as Habitat Restoration Program Manager of integrated team representing Installation Endangered Species Branch, Wildlife/game species, Forestry, Culture resources, Water Management, and Trainers. Assesses potential construction and military impacts on rare and endangered species and wetlands and works with Trainers to avoid and minimize impacts. Requires knowledge and understanding of wildlife and ecological management principles, DoD laws and regulations as well as Federal and State policies, military training activities with potential impacts on rare and endangered species and wetlands. Provides GIS and habitat data for the Installation and communicates with the US Fish and Wildlife Service to ensure compliance with Endangered Species Act. Coordinates with State and Federal Biologists, researchers, and private landowners to ensure Regional Conservation and data exchange. Assists other programs with monitoring, surveys and habitat management including prescribed fire, to perpetuate the longleaf pine ecosystem.

OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), with at least 9 semester hours in wildlife subjects, 12 semester hours in zoology, and 9 semester hours in botany or related plant science, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Program planning for habitat restoration and protection of the longleaf pine ecosystem, endangered species and wetlands: Developing and managing habitat restoration across the Installation, proficiency with Geographic Information System (GIS) to provide critical habitat parameters to organizations, to protect endangered species and wetlands; as well as the US Fish and Wildlife Service for project Biological Assessments supporting construction and Training projects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: wildlife biology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
