This position Is located in the Spinal Cord Injury Service. The Incumbent serves as the Program Support Assistant performing a variety of roles to assist the Chief Spinal Cord Injury Service, Section Chief, SCI and the Health System Specialist to accomplish Spinal Cord Injury Service goals. The service is responsible for providing primary, secondary, and SCI specific care needs to eligible veterans.

Duties

The Service is responsible for providing primary, secondary, and SCI specific care needs to eligible veterans. Services under the direct responsibility of the Spinal Cord Injury Unit includes management of a high intensity 70 bed SCI acute and chronic care unit, training for SCI staff In the Hub and Spokes model of care centered around Memphis SCI center, and a clinical research program: The SCI Incumbent is responsible for coordinating administrative duties for the subsection in an effort to guarantee the primary goal of optimally delivering high quality health care to the veterans. Maintains service chiefs dally calendar; makes appointments and arranges conferences and meetings without specific prior approval based on knowledge of chiefs schedule. Incumbent serves as the SCI Registry Coordinator and liaison between the Hub and Spokes facilities based on the Hub and Spokes model of care. Monitors the registry on a daily basis to ensure registry is up to date and is populated with the currently served patients seen both at the Hub and Spokes facilities. Maintains a master list of the SCI/D Registry. Monitors the list monthly to ensure all inpatient and out patient are scheduled timely for their annual rehabilitation examinations. Purges SCI/D Registry of patients that have not been actively followed for three years by placing them as not currently served. Accumulates information, data analysis and planning necessary for administrative recommendations and/or decisions to implement efficient service management and resolution of service problems. Relieves the professional staff of SCI Service of administrative duties as assigned by the Chief and will perform other assigned duties in order to extend the role of the service chief. Incumbent is the ADPAC for the service and functions as the primary "trouble shooter'' within the Service for routine problems involving both program and equipment in use. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/31/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: In addition to meeting the time-in-grade requirement, applicants must meet the following specialize experience: Specialized Experience: Applicants must have one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization GS-07 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Processing correspondence, memorandums, suspenses, and other forms of written communication to ensure appropriate and timely routing and grammatical correctness; maintaining appointments and calendars, to include resolution of calendar conflicts, scheduling appointments, and coordinating meetings as requested; scheduling travel arrangements; coordinating purchase of office supplies and equipment to meet the organization's needs. There is no educational substitution for the GS-07 level. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Regular and recurring work is mostly sedentary involving sitting at a desk. The incumbent works with a computer screen and keyboard. Some physical effort such as standing, walking, bending, lifting (up to 40 pounds) or prolonged sitting may be required. Physical exertions including stretching, reaching, and pulling or pushing carts occurs when assisting with inventories or activities involving retrieving items from shelves and cabinets.
